Default ABS light staying on

HI, new here as of just now. I noticed that the ABS light(on my 1997 Dodge 1500 p/u) stays on all the time now, and that my braking system has reverted to manual brake system( the pedal goes almost to the floor, but not mushy). I did read the manual, and it does say possible trouble with hydraulics? I had a buddy who is a mechanic over, and looked and didn;t see anything underneath to indicate any leaks.but thought I should get it checked out. I need to drive this every day, and was wondering if I can still drive it safely until I get it serviced( can't until Friday

Thanks for the reply.

Gail

Reverted to manual braking? You mean the ABS being disabled, I presume. Have your mechanic buddy pull the ABS trouble codes and go from there. If there are no leaks and the truck still stops ok, it should be safe to drive.

With the pedal going almost to the floor , it might be a bad master cylinder or the rear brakes needing to be serviced .
