Default DTE death

I have realized that the Dte in the computer is usually fairly accurate. However the last couple days mine seems to be on the fritz like it went down 5 km when i backed it out of the drive way to get my car out. It went from 340 to 275 km in about 20 km worth of driving. IT was cold and there was snow but even then i still have never noticed this happening.

Mine will fluctuate also if you leave it sit and idle while it's cold. Steadily gains nearly 10-15 miles if you're patient and wait for it. It readjusts again as soon as you start on your way though.

If you stop and think about it, the DTE has no idea what kind of driving you're going to be doing until you run out. So it has to modify the number based on data it is getting regarding how you are using fuel as you go along. When I'm on a road trip, I can watch it and it will be pretty accurate. When I'm driving around town, on my usual less than 5 mile runs, it will drop like a rock. Unless my driving speed and road conditions are pretty steady, and will continue to be until it's time to fill up, I wouldn't count on that reading. very much.

I notice if you sit there and warm up the truck the kms left will go down. When you start driving it will gradually go back up. That computer is not the most accurate thing i the world. The more steady you are the better it reads.

Driving in the city the majority of the tank and then going on the highway u'll just see the km's go up

Yeah...it's tied to fuel consumption over mileage so if you are idling/warming up the rig a lot, the DTE goes down because you've used fuel but not moved.

It's adaptive, so as the fuel used over mileage ratio changes, so does the DTE measurement.

Honestly, I would never go with a DTE reading. I have it on all four of my vehicles and I just turn it off if I can. The most important thing is the fuel gauge. On any of my vehicles the DTE reading will fluctuate depending how heavy my right foot is as well as my driving habits so they are never 100% accurate, not even 80%.

that system is just to screwy for me
i can pull off the freeway, pull into a gas station & fill up, reading reads 530 miles, i drive a short distance to a restaurant to grab a meal, then before i get back on the freeway it reads 460, once on the road again, it starts climbing
its just too screwy to pay attn. to

I use mine in my diesel when I'm hauling on the highway as a reference, but not a trusted guarantee. I only pay attention to it since it gives me a ball park of when to start looking for a Bulk Station since I can do 150kms after it hits E, stupid fords.
