Default Engine mounted off center?

I have been seriously considering buying a new Dodge Ram 1500 and was at the Auto Show today checking it out again and noticed that there is quite a significant hump in the floor in the front passenger area. So I popped the hood to see if there was an obvious reason and noticed that the engine (HEMI 5.7) appears to be mounted 3" or so off center (towards the passenger side of the truck). The Dodge Ram 1500 brochure that shows the chassis and powertrain also appear to show this, with the driveshaft angled into the centrally mounted rear diff to make up for the initial offset.

I have searched and searched the nets trying to find even a mention of this configuration and have failed. Can someone please confirm (or deny?) that the engine is indeed mounted off center? Any ideas as to why this design was used (benefits)?

Welcome to the Z! Glad to have ya on the board, and hope we can help ya get into the new Rams. As for your question, it is indeed mounted off center and my guess is to balance the weight of the motor with the driver and fuel tank on the coil suspension. That offset shouldn't affect the powertrain any since it's done over 3/4 of the length of the vehicle and the angle is minimal and within spec on the U-joints. It would also give a larger well for the driver's foot on the gas pedal that the passenger side wouldn't need.
