This is beginning to sound an awful lot like Lakeview Terrace...

HOA, if you have one. Most places that do will be on it pretty quick. And if not hopefully he will dial it down after his first electric bill comes in. I would be pissed too.

Again, it's about a 25-30ft. pole. That's would be one hell of a wall. He said it will only be on when he has people over but still. If I gets too bad, I will just make a call to code enforcement. He will know who called since he doesn't have anybody on the other side of him or behind him a good ways. -BK

People are wierd, someone could very well complain before you do. Even if it doesnt effect them that much. Im not sure I would put up with that at all, and I like volleyball and cookouts but damn.

You have to have an HOA if its a newer neighborhood, right?

Its one thing to have some flood lights but this sounds like way too much. And you know now that he has that, people coming over will be way more frequent which means the light will be on more.

I'd just tell him that he can do whatever he wants just as long as it doesn't piss you off.

I have a sign in the front of my house that says "Nothing in here is worth your life" with a picture of a silhouette with bullet holes...I openly carry to and from my vehicle. Neighbors tend not to say a whole lot to me.

But, I would just be a man and go talk to him about it. I'm not looking to make friends with my neighbors. I have plenty of friends. I live in an HOA and I'm content with it until we get our business to the point where I can move out to the boondocks and have a 100 acres. They have bylaws in place to keep people from doing stuff like that. I agree with whoever said anyone who puts up a 30 foot pole to play volleyball probably is a bit light in the wrist anyways.

I'd do my research and see what the HOA and your city says. I'd find the supporting laws and go talk to him about it. Let him know you wanted to give him the heads up before having to go through the "official channels".

It was his responsibility to do his due diligence prior to installing this monstrosity.
