Default Wanting HID's but too chicken

Hi everyone, I am chicken to get HID's as I've heard many many stories of them not working as desired on the 09's. I've been patrolling eBay and found some stock replacement bulbs that claim to be 42 watt 5900k. This would fit into my comfort zone as I'd be afraid to mess up my primary vehicle. Would this be even worth it, or should I just wait until someone comes up with an out of the box HID solution? The other direction I could go would be to put in the Silverstar Ultras as I am comfortable with those.

I say get the Silverstars for now. Once someone comes out with a direct plug-n-play for your truck, then upgrade to the HIDs.

Andy@ACCstyle who works for Advanced Automotive Concepts, a vendor here, got me a plug and play kit for my 300. Most, if not all kits for the 300, required resistors and such, but this one didn't. PM him for the info..you won't regret it..HID's are so much better than the standard halogen bulb, are brighter, and look the best!

I'd say get some replacements that you're comfortable with.

Get a reputable brand that has a warranty and that are plug and play. Mine are Phillips made in Germany and have a 2 year warranty and made specific for my truck. It makes a huge difference, got hooked when I had my 08 Challenger.

I love the look of HID's, but I am afraid of the headache if they don't work as intended (flickering, or light out notifications). There are so many threads on here from people who have troubles. I am able to follow directions well, but I wouldn't know enough about electrical systems to add resistors or capacitors.

A lot of the people with issues have bought them on eBay and have little to no customer support. Check out 3B Specialties or Advanced Automotive Concepts both of which sell high quality kits and are known for their amazing customer satisfaction.

I have had silverstars in the last two vehicles I have owned. They are a big improvement over the stock bulbs. On my envoy, it seems like I would have to replace one every few months for some reason. I am gonna try to go the HID route on my 08 ram this time. Hopefully, it will work out for the both of us trying the HID's. Good Luck!

Hey man I just installed some Recon Xenon replacement bulbs that are 5,600 Kelvins and 55w. I really like the way they look! I would recommend them to you for sure! I have them in both my fogs and headlights. I will have pics tomorrow of them in the lighting section of the forum. They are inexpensive and look great!

I'm not afraid to mod...have done most of my own work on the SRT8 and have embarked on a few mods on the truck as well.

I am going through the pain of flickering HID's right now but the vendor is supporting me well and is working with me to resolve the issue.

I'm no good when it comes to wiring or understand how them electrons flow (ironic as I work for an electric utility - but my Masters is in Business Management, not Electrical Engineering! LOL) but I have a good friend who knows his stuff so when I go to Irvine in a couple of weeks, the kit goes with me. He's offered to troubleshoot the issue and come up with a fix and I have all the confidence in the world that he'll figure it out.

So don't be afraid but be ready to pull your headlights out a few times until you get past the issue.

If you ain't moddin', yer dead...
