Local parts stores did not have my Haynes manual, so I ordered one. It should have been here yesterday, but haven't seen it yet. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm looking at the track bar bushing and center link (drag link?) bushing. To make matters worse, I'm pretty sure the front drivers side axle u-joint just took a shart on me. It's parked until Monday and I'm dropping it off at the shop. I've been reading up on changing one and I just don't think I have it in me at this point in time. Besides...I'm going muskie fishing tomorrow. ;D Will post an update as soon as I get this stuff lined up.

My recommendations are:

1. Do the work yourself to save yourself money.
2. Replace everything in pairs to keep your wear characteristics consistent.
3. Do not go cheap with junk parts.
4. Invest in good quality tools.

Ok, been busy with work, but here's what happened.

Replaced the axle u-joint and upper/lower ball joints on the left side. $300 at a local shop. Seemed like a good enough price and my family has been going to them for years. I'm going to have the other side done soon. They said the ball joints are fine on the passenger side, but as long as they're in there replacing the u-joint, may as well have that done, too. They also said the track bar and drag link (bushing, I think???) needs replaced. I may do that myself and then have the shop do an alignment. They are an alignment shop, anyway...and do a lot of front end/suspension work. They seem to be very fair and do great work.

The front end is a little bit tighter with the new ball joints, so I'm on the right track.

Thanks all for the info!

Not all Dodge trucks have half shafts up front, some run solid axles such as the Dana 44 or the Dana 60 and they only have solid axles with knuckle joints. I run a Dana 44 connected to a NP 204 then out back I have a Chrysler 8 3/4 rear end.

CHILTON or HAYNES is the way to go for truck manuals...........I REFUSE to own a vehicle if I can not get a repair manual for it. The auto industry is simply changing way to fast to keep up with, that's why manuals are so important.
