Question Another MDS ? but I don't think its been asked.

I was at my dealer last week talking to another salesman asking acouple of questions since my salesman "Jorge" was completely worthless. I could have got more info from the 18 year old girl at the cashier's desk. Sorry had to rant. He told me that the MDS shuts down random cylinders each time to limit wearing on just dedicated cylinders. Can anyone confirm or deny this statement?

He's an idiot. Cylinders 1,4,6, and 7 are deactivated. Check this link for basic MDS operation. http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=47443

You can't shut down random cylinders or you'll off balance the motor. He's an idiot. It's why you don't see any MDS-like options on a V6. Not saying it CAN'T be done on a V6, but it's extremely difficult.

LOL I need to read the thread properly before I respond! random cylinders would tear the engine apart...

Honda does an MDS type of system on a V6 that seems to work well.

I've heard of the Honda system and I'm curious as to how they counter the natural imbalance of the V-6 running in a 4 cylinder mode.

Firstly I don't have any problems with the MDS system. As it does the job it was designed to do, that's great. I'm curious with a lot of City driving and the engine going from 8 to 4 and 4 to 8 frequently have you guys that are Dodge tech's seen any uneven ware on the cylinders or problems with engines that have a lot of miles on them. I just love my 2009 Laramie it has the life time warranty and I intend to keep it for along time like I did my 97 ram with over 200k.
