Default Need a programmer

Howdy! I bought a 2005 dodge 2500 5.9L Diesel, 4x4, crew cab and I am looking at programmers. What I want is a programmer that will streamline my diesel for feul economy and at the same time, if I need more power, the option is available at my finger tips. I have looked around and there are so many to choose from. So if you have been through the ringer with programmers, I would like your input. I may or may not do a lot of pulling but I want the power if I need it. Thanks in advance.

I recently bought a 2006 3500 with the Cummins and it came with the Bully Dog computer. I am not really impressed with this programmer. It basicly tells you some things about the engine and transmission and it has settings for stock, tow, performance and extreme. I thought it might help with MPG but there seems to be no different in any of the mode settings. I ran a tank full in each setting with not much difference.

I would take a look at the Edge programmer for the Ram. Also PPE makes some good programmers for diesels

A lot of people also recommend Smarty. I have heard great things about all three mentioned here. Best of luck.

If you have the 24V 5.9L cummins, then check out the Smarty, Banks IQ w/ six gun, and the SCT. They are by far the best for the 24V and will give you some great power. couple them with some ported injectors, cai, and 5" exhaust and you have a good start to some seriour power.

I have a BullyDog PowerPup in my 2006 2500 4x4. It works well, and allows tuning on the fly. I get roughly 20MPG highway while on Tow/Economy setting if I can keep it under 72 MPH.

If I set it to extreme...2nd gear scratch and pouring black smoke is the norm

The PPE EXCELERATOR are good, and not so bad on the EGT I'm told. Read up on the PPE programer, and check the reviews.
