Default Solid Front Axle ?

When did Dodge stop using Solid Front Axles on their trucks, and move to the independant suspension.

They went to the independent front suspension on the half tons for improved ride and handling.

When did they do that? What year did they switch over?

I believe the change happened with the 02 model year. I had an 02 4wd with independent, a friend had an 01 with a solid.

If that is the case, why does the 2010 Ram (which I just bought) sit so low in the front end, when the 2007 models had a lot more fender clearance, if both are independant front suspensions?

I like the look of a lot of space between the wheel and fender that the Dodge use to have. Now they look like Chevy and Toyota with the low rakeing front end.

Where it sits really has nothing to do with the type of suspension. Some people like the tall look, some don't. The stylist may have shot for a look where the tire fills the wheel house opening better for the 4th gen.
