Default Traction Button Use

Still figuring out all the options on my new crew. Under what conditions do you engage the button? What about in combinaton with the awd?

Isn't the traction on at all times. You have the option of shutting it off no? I drove a 2010 Ram and turned the traction control off and noticed a little more power available

I thought it was the opposite? An indicator light on the dash lights up when I push the botton. I was slideing around on the snow and I think it improved the traction if I remember correctly.

As far as I have found out, when the flashes without the button being pressed, it is telling you that it is controlling the traction. When you push the button and the light is on steady, then traction control is turned off. I would say that is why it is an amber light. Warning you that something is out of place for normal driving.

That is how it has worked in my last 3 vehicles (Trailblazer, STS, and Ram).

You are 100% correct. When the light is off it is in 100% affect, and when you push the button and the light comes on it is working at a reduced affect. You can never turn it completely off.

Traction control is on at all times unless you turn it off. When you press the button on the dash, it somewhat disables it, and will put the light on the dash. In other Chrysler products that I have owned with a TCS or ESP button, you can press and hold it for 5 seconds and it will fully disable.

Here is a pic of my dash:

It clearly says "OFF" on the traction control button.

Like the above poster said, if it flashes while you are driving without pressing the button - the traction control system is doing its thing trying to get you traction.

Yes I see how it works now. So what conditions would you drive with it off.

I finally found my fog light switch tonight by the way

in conditions where tire spin is necessary...

as in...having fun

Also...it won't restrict low RPM power, which can result in loss of traction, but...at least your getting full power.

just traded my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport Hemi 4x4... at times, sure, i needed some traction control in the rain but i enjoyed the rush from controlling the "slide". bought the 2010 ram hemi and figured with the extra horses maybe i would have a little more fun on occasion. but nope, that damn traction control is one stubborn bitch. personally, it's a little more big brother than i care for.
