Default Rust Proofing From Dealer

Anyone buy this from their dealer at time of purchase. I thought it was expensive but was sold on it because any corrosion will be 100% covered and it is a one time deal. I was also told that this coverage is only available if the treatment is bought before delivery. Annual coatings can be almost $200. I paid $500 for the one time treatment and warranty.

I dropped the new crew off today for the treatment. They showed me a truck being done. It isn't oily but more like a clear rubber. They will wash and put another coat of wax on. They put a coat of wax on for delivery already. I was wondering if anyone can comment on the performance of this treatment as well. The salesmen claims that most of their customers buy it.

I'm usually weary of dealer add ons but since you live up there I figure your truck is going to be exposed to a lot of snow and salt. So it's probably a good thing you did get it. Would be cool to see a picture of what it looks like under the truck after the treatment.

The salt is deadly. Vehicles look like disposable items sometimes. I take my hat off to the mechanics who have to tackle the rusted parts for repair. That, and laying on the cold concrete while slush thaws overthem while under the vehicles.

I had my 07 rust proofed at the dealer in Detrroit when I purchased it, and water still beads up and runs off like the day it was put on the paint.
So far it is a good product.

The number one question you have to ask yourself...how long do you plan on keeping this vehicle? If the answer is less then 10 years I definitely would not worry about it.

They replace salt truck beds every 5 - 7 years. This is the worst case situation and that equipment can last that period of time. Our trucks don't handle a fraction of what those salt trucks put up with.

No single rust proofing can cover everything (moving parts). The factory offers a 100,000 mile/5 year warranty on rust. If they are confident enough to put that type of warranty on it, I can only imagine what their testing has shown effective.

This was a coating for the under carriage and inside the fenders etc. Not on the paint. Most people do oilspray there vehicles around here for @ $150-250every year. I just wasn't familiar with this particular coating.

I read a post recently in here, seems up in Ontario Canada, there is a shop that uses a spray of some kind to protect like an under coating. I may get my truck done with it when i'm up there this august. we don't have those shops down here in the States

They are everywhere here. Every backyard guy does it as well and everyone claims they have the best formula, ie; no drip, silicone, penetrating etc.,etc.. Krown is one of the popular brands. I used them before and they are thorough and they get that oil in every knook and cranny. They also wash and clean up your truck after the deed. It is messy stuff and runs and drips for a few days though. Don't park in the driveway for a day or two and make sure you keep wiping the door sills so you don't get it on your clothes. A trick is to go and drive on a dusty gravel road after an undercoat to stop the dripping. Some will also give you a corrosion gurantee if you do the spray annually.
