Default Let's Talk About Rust

I found this rust spot while washing my truck. It is on the very bottom of the door. Since I also fixed a small rust spot just like it on my hood, I knew just what to do. Here is my how-to:

1. Don't panic! (I like to panic)
2. Get a good 300 grain sandpaper and lightly rub the area to clean it up.
3. Wipe it off with a wet rag.
4. Dab some touchup paint on it.

My question to the forums is this: How do I prevent this, aside from regular washing and waxing? Is there some backwoods, handed down chemical formula to apply to all the metal to prevent it, or are there any good commercial appliers? I have heard Krone is good, but they are in Canada, and that's just too far away.

Exclamation

Krown is excellent, I'm getting mine done in a couple of weeks. Best time is in the spring or early summer believe it or not. I'm surprised that they are not setup in the states. I used a product called "Fluid Film" on my last truck that I found at Walmart. I sprayed brake calipers, hubs and any exposted metal under the truck. It went through two winters and the parts I sprayed looked brand new when I took the truck back (lease ended hence the new RAM). Perhaps give it a try.

I just found some Fluid Film for sale online. I think I might give it a try.

Getting mine done for $119 cdn. It is an annual application if you want the warranty from them. Truck must be less than 6 Months old to qualify.
