Default Gas Filler Neck - Sprays gas on me

Has anyone else had problems with the gas filler neck spraying gas on them when filling their tank. The truck is only a couple of months old and only has 896 miles on it and the last 2 times it sprayed me both times, different pumps. I advised the station to have their pump diaphrams checked and did a google on the problem. I found that Dodge has had problems in the past with this and it turns out they end up replacing the tanks in them. I took it to the dealer and have it scheduled to be checked on 3/22/10 as I won't have the gas down until then.
Just curious if anyone else is having problems with gas tank on filling?

there was a post about a week or so ago about this problem, its the truck, not the pumps at the station
several mentioned gas tank replacement, others said it was within the filler neck
likely someone else will soon comment on this problem

I think you just need to break in the tank. I suggest a cross country trip.

What's the root cause? Vapor not allowed to escape fast enough during fill ups?

When the pumps clicks and stops, I have learned not to try and add more gas after that.

It is a known problem, take it to your dealer, they have a couple of possible fixed, and replacing the tank is a last resort. It's an over pressure issue from inadequate venting and will cause the gas to burp up when the pressure gets too high.

Mine spit out on my first fill up. After the pump stopped I tried to top off and as soon as I squeezed the nozzle again it spit up. I just put in my second fill and I left it where the nozzle stopped without trying to top off this time.

The problem with mine is not coming from trying to top off. It happens when you put the nozzel in and set it to run on its own, it does not shut off until it has sprayed all over you and dumped a bunch of gas on the ground. I have an appointment with the dealer next week however they claim they have never had or heard of this problem. The zone rep however did advise them it would be the filler neck or a venting problem. Will be waiting to see what they do.

No fun for sure. Most nozzles here can't be set on auto anymore. You have to manually hold it. I alway listen while standing there. You can hear it when it is almost full and slow down on your fill rate as you near the top.

Yes sir. That sounds like the problem right there.

OP: Take the truck to the dealer.
