Default Rear end problems

so my 2009 dodge ram 1500 laramie, driveshaft dropped out of it pulling in to the dodge dealrship to get a rear end noise looked at. so far the dealership says that the yolk broke and they are looking into the reason why. this is the second time this has happened with only 28000 miles. attached photos.
update: the dealer says a nut backed off and got into the ring and pinion so the whole rear end is shot.

Maybe they should drill the fastener and safety wire it!

Sorry for your troubles.

I have seen that a few times and it was due to a pinion seal leak. The differential leaked so much over time that it got too low and then the bearing's get too hot and it shears the pinion off. The tell tale sign is differential fluid on the side of the gas tank.

My pinion seal was leaking at only 3,500 miles,,,

Yep, oil on the gas tank, with oil 'spots' slung around on the rear suspension.

The rear pinion seal and the right front axle seal are the most common seals on these trucks to leak. I have seen them leak as little as 3000 miles. Infact my right front axle seal is sweating already and I only have 3000 miles on mine.

Cormacs,

From what you have seen, what is the root cause of these issues?

Seal not installed correctly from the factory?

Also, do individual vehicles that have seal problems eventually have the same problem again,,, even after the seals have been replaced?
