shine the light into this "eye", probably from a slight angel so that it won't reflect in your review mirror. now check the rear view mirror.... it should have a slight green tint to it, when you remove the light from the "eye" the mirror should go back to being clear within a minute or so.

hope this helps

This little eye you speak of is not for the auto dimmer, however it is for the automatic temperature control. They use an inferead temperature sensor to judge the temperature of the cabin.

OPERATION
The ambient photocell sensor is located on the forward-facing (windshield side) of the rear view mirror housing, and detects the ambient light levels outside of the vehicle. The headlamp photocell sensor is located inside the rear view mirror housing behind the mirror glass and faces rearward, to detect the level of the light being received at the rear window side of the mirror. When the circuitry of the automatic day/night mirror detects that the difference between the two light levels is too great (the light level received at the rear of the mirror is much higher than that at the front of the mirror), it begins to darken the mirror.

The automatic day/night mirror circuitry also monitors the transmission using an input from the backup lamp circuit. The mirror circuitry is programmed to automatically disable its self-dimming feature whenever it senses that the transmission backup lamp circuit is energized.

The automatic day/night mirror is a completely self-contained unit and cannot be repaired. If faulty or damaged, the entire mirror assembly must be replaced.

Now that sounds like a problem if I remove the mirror

no, the eye is not in the mirror. I was only correcting the other person. If you remove the mirror, the only thing it would affect is the UConnect and the side mirror dimming. Obviosuly the rear view wouldn't dim either, unless you bought a dimming rear view.

Yes, there is two of them. One is aimed at the driver side for the driver and there is one aimed at the passenger side for the passenger. They are on the under side of the mirror.

Thx cormacs for the help and the quick reponse. Sounds like it will be to much of a pain to switch the mirror. I was looking for a cheaper way to get a back up cam without having to upgrade my radio. I would like the touch sceen radio but seems like to many things would have to be changed as well

You can buy a kit for the touch screen radio. It comes with everything but the back up camera. The only problem it is a little pricey. Then you have to buy the back-up camera kit seperatly it is too bad in price. But it is a lot of money to do the whole conversion. Your best bet is to find one on E-Bay.

I stand corrected Cormacs... I guess it was a coincidence when I tried it with mine... stranger things have been known to happen.

This is a good example of why the forumz is such a great place.... we get a meeting of the minds, and a correction of the misinformed!
