Before all the fancy electronics in vehicles, I installed a 'Bee-Rancher' 12V electric fencer in my truck. Tied the fence connection to the frame, and the ground wire to a static strap that was isolated from the truck, but touched the ground.

I worked great. Low power fencer + resistive strap = low, but effective jolt.
However, after having done it's job in deterring a would be tool box thief, the thief reported it to the local authorities, and when I came out to my truck, I was met by the police who pressed charges based on 'life and safety hazard'.

Cost me $1200 in fines and costs....and another $2500 in damages to the thief! BTW- He didn't even deny his real intention, but since he never completed the task, no crime was committed on his part !?!

I guess justice was served.

Now, I use a locking tonneau cover with a Pop-N-Lock electric tailgate lock, wired to the passenger door lock. That way, it take 2 hits of remote to unlock the gate.

the tailgate lock is the best choice, but in the meantime you can buy those special screws I think there called Safety screws, usually people don't have the tool to take them out!! Do you know of any dealer in Miami that sells the SRT replica wheels?

Allow me to comment on how much that sucks as well. BTW, where down here do you live? I heard someone messing around with my truck a couple of weeks ago, and actually saw them running off when I went out to investigate. I wonder if they were going for mine! I do have a tailgate lock and a locking hard tonneau, though.

I have a less expensive tailgate lock, made by Bully, it cost me around 20 bucks, and it's been fine so far. I'm sure the Pop-Lock is better quality but the Bully has served me well so far. I was a tailgate theft victim on one of my older trucks, so a tailgate lock is an immediate purchase for me.

Heck, I almost wish someone would steal my taillights, I need some motivation to get rid of those ugly tomato can lights and get some smooth tail lights back there. The key is motivation.

that sux man. I have a Python 2 way alarm (remote with screen and pager on it) I got a deal since I'm good friends with the head installer at a local shop but my alarm is sensitive enough that if someone opened my tailgate the the alarm would go off but not too sensitive that a loud system would set it off. Plus it's got a 1 mile range incase someone tries to break in while im a mile away just a suggestion.

sucks about your truck. I don't understand why people steal sh#$t. You worked hard either modding or making money to purchase something and some piece of crap just comes along and takes it........pisses me off. Anyway I know this is way late but I puchased little bulb holder / pigtail units for my old Dakota a couples years ago (mine had corroded) from autoanything I believe. I liked getting new ones rather than used myself. Perhaps they have ones for the Ram?

if a thief reaches inside of your vehicle, its unlawful entry, if they jimmy a door or break the window its breaking & entering, so you can use this gadget I believe, its legal in England
http://freespace.virgin.net/autotaser.uk/

But then again our laws here are strange, I never heard the outcome of 1 incident. a thief wanted to steal something from a building, the building had chain link fence all around the property, on the fence were signs reading that the building was electrified, the building also had the signs. they climbed over the fence, some how get onto the roof of the building & entered through a sky light, when they hit the cat walk inside the building the metal of the cat walk was electrified, some how he was injured & was taken to the hospital. I heard that he was suing the company that owned the building, but, never heard the results
