That sounds like what happened to me your not going to like my story so sit down.I have a 03 dodge ram hemi It had 110,000 when it happened I was drivin down the street suddenly It started to misfire running rough and smelling rich. a little red light turned on the bottom right it had a )lightning volt like( its in your manuel I pulled over then i turned It off then back on it sounded like my fan hit the shroud then I turned it off
the fan was fine then tried to turn it on It locked up the driver side the valve spring gave out droped a valve not pretty.

Sorry to here about your troubles My truck still runs but only on 7 if you hammer on it still pulls great I hope it is only a spring or burnt valve or something like that but I am going to call to see how much a long block is on Monday from Dodge for the fun of it used motors are running $1500-$2000 around here and are sure to be ready to do the samething to me I have only had this truck 1.5 years and I came over from a Chevy I am starting to think I should have stayed my old 2000 Chevy 1500 with the 4.8L had 200+ on it when I sold it and it ran great but just rotted to death.

Why not get the correct diagnosis before condeming the entire engine? Pull the valve cover and check the #7 intake spring.

worse case,I bought a rebuild motor for 3,000 has 3 year warranty with unlimited miles.you could be lucky and it just be fixable before you need a new motor.Goodluck.

An actual pressure isn't listed but the max variation between cylinders is no more than 25%. If you arent checking the compression with all the plugs out, the throttle blade wide open and the battery at a full charge, I would expect to see numbers in the range of what you have listed. As far as replacing all the springs goes - it's a judgement call, really. I've seen people replace just the broken one and go on with no more problems but if your engine is high mileage, it would be hard to argue against replacing all of them.
