Quick question. A couple of my buddies and I are hitting the drag strip on Friday night. I have a question about launching from a dead stop. Is there any point in staging a pretty much stock truck? As far as the mods go on my truck I have the magnaflow dual in dual out muffler dumped behind the rear axle. My K&N CAI will be at the shop at 2 today and in shortly after that, and my Diablo Programmer will be here by Friday. Other than that I have changed all fluids to Royal Purple and thats it. So when I am taking off from the line is there really any reason to rev the RPM's way up to launch. I am runnning the same tires I run on the street which are 275/60/20 Cooper Zeons. Just curious about what you guys think. I also am considering racing a guy from work with a camaro that was dyno'd a little while ago with 301hp and 390 ft pounds of torgue. Any prediction on the outcome of that one, lol.

Any and all tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

hey steve,

lower the air pressure in the rear tires to about 25-28 lbs (if your using stock tires), drive around the waterbox and back in til you barely get them wet, then move forward a lil bit, apply brakes (not all the way) and do a power brake burnout for a sec or 2. move forward slowly and watch the 2 top lights, when the first one lights up you are getting into start position and stop when the 2nd one lights up (they both should be lit, if the 1st one goes out you went too far)... in my 05 I always push my tow/haul button in (seems to hold the gears longer for me)...when both of you light up, the start lights activate (about 2 secs) and start coming down, since I'm a slow reactor I go as soon as the 2nd light goes out (if you wait til green to go it's too late)..so yul have to test wich yellow lights to leave at and practice til you find the sweet spot...

a couple of tricks to try.. try taking out the air filter out for one of the runs (I've always run without filters at the track)... and maybe try a shortbelt (bypasses powersteering and ac pump), you can get it at any autostore (538k6 serpentine)

Turning out the top staging lights is allowed in some classes and is referred to as deep staging. This will lower your reaction time and shorten the distance to the finish line but will increase your elapsed time because you aren't getting a running start.

As far as bringing the engine up on the converter or "stalling", which is what I assume you mean instead of staging, it does help but keep in mind you don't want to stay on the converter more than a few seconds because it rapidly builds heat in the fluid.

stalling up does cause torque management to kick in at some point (I tested it and found I do better leaving from idle)

Good point. I was thinking from a drag car standpoint and not from a Hemi Ram perespective. Do you shallow, normal or deep stage when you run?
