I have a 2004 dodge ram 2500 with the 5.7l hemi .... I was driving up a bumpy hill and i hit a bump and plaaaaaaaa....i stopped moving!! It just makes a winning noise when i put it in ( park, reverse, drive, 2,1, 4 wheel drive ) nothing works ..... so long story short i had to get the truck towed.. and it sits at my house... could it be the transmission is done??? or maybe a vacuum hose or some kind of switch ??? i pulled the dip stick and there oil in the tranny and its not burnt.. At first i thought i snapped a U joint but everything looks solid... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!
hey welcome to the forum! I have a 2004 slt 2500HD automatic but it is a 5.9L cummins and had a similar problem. the tranny would not shift in to 2,3,4th so i took it in to aamco and they said OH YES! NEW TRANNY! $3800.00! But i then went to a local auto mechanic that has been in the business for years and had contacts to check with and he told he that it was a simple problem but can run about $700. It was the shifting solenoid and vacuum governor that is attached to the transmission. that is what was bad and it did cost me $650.00 but that is less than $3800.00! hope that helps.
