Default Painting the mirrors

i would like to have my side view mirrors painted to match my car . they are black . i was wondering if anyone here has had them done . the texture of them looks like they wont hold the paint. if it can be done i would have a pro shop do it but i dont want them to rape me on the cost of having them done . so i would like to have knowledge about the procedure. so my question is there alot of work to get them painted . or would it be simple process of prep and paint.

You can have them done but you have to sand it down quite well, use a special primer meant for non-metal surfaces and a paint that has flex agent in it.

I did my aftermarket mirrors; had them colormatched when I was having my door panels repaired. If you want to save the money, get 3 cans of rattle can paint from the dealership, sand the finish down with 300/600/1000 grip papers, use an adhesion promoter, then paint, followed by 2 coats of clear. Wet sand with 1500/1800 grit to get rid of any orange peel. If they're still on the truck, a shop might charge you $400, but drop them off and I'm sure you can get them done for $100-150 each

*edit*
To add to Incog's, the dealership rattle cans seem to work pretty well for flexibility on plastic parts; used it to good results on many of mine.

When I worked for GM we used Sikkens paint. It was expensive stuff, but damn was it fantastic. Far better than PPG, which I personally think is overrated. DuPont is damn good too, depending on which line of paint you choose. And stay away from Sherwin Williams, that stuff is s**t.

What about buying the aftermarket covers, like on the Laramie model, and either go with the chrome, or see if those can be painted?
