I second that, the MDS is usefull when needed. If you don't want it, just leave the paddle shift on (manual mode). You get to play with the gears and have the MDS off. But when you are cruising on the highway the MDS can save a few bucks. With the price of gas these days not such a bad thing !! Just my opionion.

No - I like it as well. The 'Semi Hemi' makes a lot of difference esp. on the highway. IMHO, if you don't notice a difference with MDS, you drive with a very heavy foot to begin with.

I'm with you.... I'm 46 not 16; I like my hemi power quiet and stealthy. Although in my Ram the MDS hardly ever kicks in because most of my driving is just to work and back. I REALLY like the MDS on my 300C.... 22 mpg at 80 mph in a 4200 lb hemi powered car is nothin' to scoff at!

Doesn't anyone read the owner's manual ? Or even the sales brochure? :-)

You won't get the mpg of a typical 4 cyl..... My '07 Ram 1500 4x4 quadcab weighs 5600 pounds! I have gotten 18 mpg on the highway, while my brother with an '04 (no MDS but otherwise same truck) gets 15 to 16 on the highway. If you do a lot of highway driving that would add up.

I like the MDS as well. Don't understand why soemone would purchase a vehicle with MDS and then spend most of thier time on this site ranting about it. They should have purchased another manufacturers truck.

I hate to burst some of your bubbles here, but I had my MDS turned "OFF" and I get on average two more MPG's without it. Even when I am towing my wife's horses in the trailer we still average around 16 - 18 mpg on the highway.
As for the turning off the OD instead of disabling the MDS, if I wanted to drive on the highway at 400,000,000 rpm's I would have bought a crotch rocket.
Now I get the best of both worlds, NO MDS bullcrap and even better mileage. Folks just in case you haven't noticed Dodge advertises (v-6 mileage) with the Hemi in MDS mode. That's funny because I could have sworn MDS shut the Hemi down to 4 cylinders but yet it still sucks the gas like a lousy 6 banger and no matter how you look at it that is crappy mileage and also just in case you haven't noticed today's v-6's get LOUSY mileage. So that's nothing to brag about.

Instead we should all hang our heads in shame for being gas hogs..I gotta go, got to go get gas for the truck...

Oh one more thing, if I ever get to the point to where I claim 18 mpg is good gas mileage, some one SHOOT ME!

Good gas mileage is 25 mpg and up and as far as I can remember ain't no such truck been invented (sub-compacts don't qualify as trucks) there jokes in my books, might as well bought a Pinto and cut the top off and attach a short bed.
Well first where I'm from 40 miles a day for work isn't a "boatload" of miles. I used to drive 120 a day, and I drove a compact car for that. Right now it costs me about $32 a week to drive to work. If I had something that got 25mpg it would cost me $23. For nine dollars a week I am happy driving my Ram.

Second why don't you come shoot me then, but I never claimed that 18mpg is good gas mileage. I said I average 18mpg in a 390hp truck. For that power, 18 is good in my book. That is also slowing down for small towns, so not strict highway. I have got 20 on strict highway, compared to a car, not great. Compared to other full size trucks, pretty good.

Bottom line is I didn't buy this truck for gas mileage, but my friends drive early 00's trucks and get 12 to 14mpg. I look at it as a nice bonus that it gets decent mileage for a truck.
