Default 2005 dodge ram 1500

Hey guys..

Just got a problem with my parking lights... they dont work what so ever..

My old man is checking it out.. and said... that theres power to the relay but no power to fuses for the lights... if he runs direct power to the fuses the parking lights work...

Any ideas of what it could be?

Thank you

Yup. Starting to sound like a bad FCM (Front Control Module). If you'd like, I can post some basic diagnostics.

The park lamp relay controls power to the fuses. The relay is controlled by the FCM which receives inputs from the instrument cluster over the PCI bus and the cluster gets its inputs from from the multiplexed headlamp switch. Overcomplicated, I know. You need to check the terminals in the relay socket. Terminals 85 and 30 should have battery power at all times. Terminal 87 leads to the fuses and will only have power when the relay coil is grounded. Terminal 86 is the relay coil ground and is controlled by the FCM. Fuse 15 (50 amp) in the IPM feeds power to the 85 and 30 terminals, so check it if you don't have power at these terminals. If you can't find the problem in the relay or fuses, then you need a scan tool that can read the inputs to the FCM to diagnose a cluster, switch, or data bus problem. My bet is the FCM itself is going bad as this is a fairly common problem.

Ug well this is a massive bummer... From a dodge dealership around here... its about 400 a pop... for the FCM and/or for the fuse box if thats damaged...

What causes them to be damaged or corode... my old man is complaning that I do back roads to much and it corodes it... but I bought a truck for a reason... i dont want something to drive around knowing its going to crap again on me sometime in the future.. any way to prevent it?

You can tell the old man that a Dodge tech says that the FCM's on the '04-'05 models are troublesome regardless of where or how you drive. I've replaced several of them for the problem you're having. I don't know of the part has been superceeded with something revamped, but I've not seen the ones I've replaced come back.

I've never replaced one more than once per vehicle.
