Default gascap warning (couldn't find topic with search)

So yesterday, I start up my '07 Hemi 1500 and as I am backing out of the driveway I hear a bell. I look at the dash and see the word "gascap" in the display. The tank is about half full, I stop, shut off the engine, and make sure the cap is securely tightened. (it is) I remove it, retighten it, and start the engine again. "ding". . . "gascap" appears once again. I ignore it. It comes on every time I start the truck, and now the check engine light comes on too.

What do I start looking for?

You need to replace the cap. The seal at the cap is leaking.

Had this happen on my Dakota. I switched to a locking gascap that was not sealing properly. After about 1/2 hour the check engine light came on (and stayed on). When I got home I put the factory one back on and it took about 1/2 hour of driving before the check engine light went out. To be 100% sure you should see if you can pull the DTC codes, see what the computer posted.

Thanks for the help. How do I go about pulling computer codes. . . without visiting my friendly Dodge service department.

. . . I'll check my owners manual as suggested.

You can also do the key dance, key off, then on 3 times. Codes should show in the odometer window.
