Default Diff Fluid and Transfer Case

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 4x4. The diff fluid and transfer case need to be changed. The dealer said it was time, but I cant afford the 450.00 to do it there. Question is, what kind of synthetic fluid goes in the diffs and what about the additive for the limited slip? Can I only buy that at a dealer? I was told that the 2005 model year has a bunch of choices and it can be found out by checking my VIN number.

Thanks

75w-140 for the diffs with LSD additive for the rear and ATF+4 for the transfer case.

Job Done! Didnt take long at all!! The guy at the dealer told me he thought the transfer case holds 4 litres , but I only got around 2 litres in. I found a listing of fluid capacities online and the dealer was wrong. Since I was feeling brave from my rear diff and transfer case jobs, I then pulled the throttle body off and cleaned it. Not a big deal. Truck is running great!

Next weekend is the front diff....

I got mine done (all the cases) at the local oil change place...they had the limited slip additive.

The front a rear diff fluid was the same--75w 120 Synthetic I think it was-except no Limited Slip additive for the front. I went to the dealer and they let me know which one to buy. I was advised the Rams can take a number of different fluids and the right one can be found out through your VIN.

I did my diff two years ago. The PML cover added a bit of capacity. Total of four quarts plus the LSD additive. The clutch pack retainers were solidly in place, minimum of metal in the bottom of the pumpkin. I suspect it had been done before, but the PO wasn't aware of that specifically.

Very easy DIY, even the front diff included (from what I've read). Certainly easier and less messy than the tranny.

Yep im looking to change both the diff fluid and the transfer case fluid as well. I'm not too experienced with cars, how hard would it be to change this stuff myself?

And I got an 06 5.7L 1500, what fluid types would I need for each? I would also like to put an LSD additive in the diffs.

Thanks!
