Even if it were possible without cutting it open, I doubt it would be worth the effort.

i have a plasma cutter that i imagine would do a really nice and neat job, its just i hear that some cheaper mufflers you can buy are hollow they're more or less just to pass inspection, i have a cherrybomb "turbo" with 3inch stack right now and i know theres no way i'm passing inspection with that. lol

Sounds to me like you're referring to chambered mufflers that use chambers to deaden the sound without hampering the flow. Cheap mufflers are usually packed with a sound deadening material and will decrease the exhaust flow. That's why they're cheap.

So you just want to have a shell to mock a muffler up there. That sounds like you will have some great flow if here is nothing to stop it. I think it would be a little loud though

yeah that's basically all i want is a shell, as far as noise i've been looking at another thread that talks about how putting a turndown tip right after the muffler makes the truck louder than running the exhaust all the way to the back of the truck, does it make a BIG difference? i'm not too worried about noise and if its loud and sounds good, then thats ever better =)

If loud is what you want, single chamber Flowmasters will do the job.

I have contacted 3 different companies asking them to make a special order with no chambers. They all said no. My buddy said back in "the day" he used an old oil drum, sealed except for exhaust ports. He said it sounded like rolling thunder. Turned heads, noone knew what it was. I canceled my Flowmaster 10 series order and am currently looking for a smaller 20ish gallon drum with a lid. I think the stock mufflers will sound crappy. If your going to hollow one out use a thicker gauge muffler like the flowmaster case for sound purposes. Do it! I wanna hear it. I haven't found one yet. My old Flowmaster 10 series had a chunk of the 1 chamer cut out of it. I got out what I could without getting it stuck inside.
