Default MDS Exhaust question

Is an aftermarket exhaust with mds really that bad? I've listened to video's on youtube but its really hard to tell. I got an 08 Hemi Ram. I went by my local muffler shop to get a price on my exhaust the other day. The guy at the muffler shop told me he wouldn't recommend doing anything to it. He said it's awful sounding and I'd hate it. I respect his opinion and I'm glad he told me instead of just doing it. I'm just trying to get you all's opinion on it. I know I can get a tuner and turn the mds off, it's in the works but I'm on a limited budget for now and the tuner will have to wait a while. Is there any muffler I can put on that will sound good but not drone and sound like crap with the mds? Or should I just suck it up and wait until I get a tuner??

Sorry if this is a question that's been asked a thousand times.

A lot of people don't like the drone you get with a lot of the kits. When I was researching, the higher-end cat back kits take the MDS into account and you get a high-flow resonator to attenuate the different pitch to keep a constant growl. I have the Borla dual rear kit and no drone, but it's a lot pricier than a non MDS friendly Magnaflow. You can always disable the MDS with a tuner and not worry about it, but it does hurt your MPGs.

Ok, Thanks.
I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. I want some rumble but I really don't wanna lose all my mpg by turning off the mds (just yet.)

You should have a resonator on your stock exhaust system. By replacing the muffler only, and leaving the resonator, you'll get the rumble you want but the drone won't be bad as the resonator is still there to attenuate it.

I don't mind the sound of most aftermarket exhausts; it's chambered exhausts that I think sound like crap when the MDS is active.

the mds sound makes a huge difference..I've had friends turn around after only drivin a couple miles from the muffler shop to at least put the front resonator back on... also had a friend last weekend switch out his flow for a magnaflow and had it dumped after axle..less then $200 (that includes the muffler) for the setup welded in..

I planned on leaving the resinator on. The fella told me it would still drone baaad. BUT, I dont feel so down now that you all say its tolerable with the resinator on.
Thanks for all the input!!!

I take it you do this for a living? With the resinator on, a custom catback, and "insert" muffler, on a scale of 1-10 what would you rate drone inside the truck? 1-none, 10-untolerable. I could really care less how bad it is outside the truck, I just dont wanna hear it.

Thanks...
