Default 09 Ram 2500 slow to shift into gear/clunks shifting out of OD

My 2009 Ram 2500 4x4 is currently in the shop getting "repaired" It started taking longer to shift into rev and drive but has only 11000 miles on it. Haven't used it for towing or anything more than hauling about 1200 lbs in the back earlier this year. I wasn't worried too much about the shifting until I felt it jolting hard whenever it shifted down out of overdrive. They said they found some metal in the pan and think there might be a burnt out clutch. Is this something that can be repaired easily or should they be talking replacement?
