Default How-To---2010 LiveLink Garage door opener Mod

K, I have been griping about how to make the garage door opener on my 2010 Ram 1500 work only when the key is inserted. This is a safety thing for me as my truck is parked in the driveway. I got it. It involves cutting the power wire from the overhead console Livelink connector and then splicing in a wire from the power rear window switch, which DOESN'T work with the key removed. It took me about 30 mins, and I will try to explain here how I did it, any questions, feel free to ask.

This is how i removed the console. It just entails getting under it and pulling straight down. It has 4 brass clips that have to be unclicked, then it will come out.

Then kinda slide it towards the back of the truck to release the little feet at the front, then the assembly will hang loose.

Disconnect the 4 wconnectors and put the assembly aside.

This is the connector for the Livelink garage door opener. You will need to cut the RED wire, tape off the wire that is coming in, and then solder or splice a new wire that will go to the Power Rear window connector.

This is what it will look like.

Then route the wire to the red window connector.

The wire you will be splicing into is the pink wire in the middle. Splice the wire and seal it up with electricians tape.

This is what it will look like when you are finished!! Hook the connectors back up, reinstall the console and sleep safer at night, knowing that if some dirtbag breaks your truck window at night, at least he will not be able to get into your garage!!

That is a GREAT post and an excellent how to !!!! I will be doing this Mod as soon as I can. One question, did you loose the program in the homelink when you removed the power ? No big deal to redo it I was just wondering if you had to.

Nope, the program wasn't lost even after removing the plug. I was kinda surprised. I removed the plug from the HomeLink and left it off for a bit, then plugged it back in before soldering the wires just to check for this very thing.

Cool, I have all the electrical connectors I need so I'm going to try and do the same thing. Your pictures will help I'm sure. I'll post up my results as soon as I'm done, hopefully it will go smoothly like yours.

Ok folks, I re-linked his pics. He has them labeled numerically in the gallery so I did the best I could to match it up. If any of the pics are wrong let me know so I can fix it!
Thanks!
