I ordered my brake controller today. They had to delete my VIN# from the computer in order to look up the part. I spoke to the service manager and politely asked to have my EVIC re-flashed for free since I just spent 29k on a new truck at their dealer. I can't wait to have it installed. Great write up!

Hello, I'm new to this forum and (like everyone) looking for some help. I purchased a 2010 Ram 2500 4X4 with a Cummins (auto). I would really like to install a factory TBC into the dash. Following the awesome advice on this forrum, I went my local dealer and didn't exactly get the response I was hoping for. The dealer said that they were not comfortable selling me the TBC and printed me the following Service Repair Notice:

"This part can only be used as a replacement on vehicles originally manufactured with the Integrated Trailer Brake system. Do not attempt tp use this module for the purpose of adding Integrated Trailer Brake to a a vehicle that was not originally equiped. You will encounter configuration difficulties. MOPAR is developing a kit. Expected availability is early mid-November, 2010"

My Ram has the tow/haul button, as well as the stock hitch receiver, and 7 & 4 pin wiring above the rear bumper. However, I am pretty certain my truck doesn't have the "second gray plug" under the dash for the factory TBC. Nor, does the EVIC reference anything about a TBC. What should I do? Please help!

I need to get my rig to communicate with my traler asap, and would really like to use the factory TBC. I heard other people say that their dealer was knowledgeable about installing the TBC and reflashing the PCU so it can talk to the EVIC, but my dealer was all dumb-dumb.....

Lastly, the part number used in this install was 56029431AF and the one at the dealer I almost brought was 56029431AG.

Thanks Guys!

Part number "AG" is the next build of the same part - no problem there.

Some dealers will still do it, some won't - talk to your Sales Manager where you bought your truck and see if he can swing it with Service to flash it.

You can install it on your own if both plugs are there, if not you'll need to wait for the kit or install an aftermarket unit (get this done at a reputable hitch/RV dealer as it'll be cheaper).

My dealer had a hard time finding the part in their computer. When they entered my VIN that part was not an option from MOPAR as it was not included from the factory. However, they deleted my VIN and found the part and ordered it for me $142. I spoke to service on the way out, they said it would be $50 for them to re-flash it with the controller. I asked if they could do it for free since I just bought the truck there, which he agreed to do as long as I installed it myself.

The next day when the part came in I installed it in the parking lot and the techs re-flashed it for free. All of the 2010's should have the plug-in. I followed the directions at the beginning of the thread. Installation was painless and now I can view the brake control status from the EVIC. I'll post a pic later when I get my truck back from the body shop...long story.

Did you get the software update for the EVIC? Is there a way to have this done without going to a dealer?

thx

Ken thanks for the detailed post about the Integrated Brake Controller. Your instruction were perfect. Took me about 30 minutes to do the install and that included adding the B plug splice. Works like a charm.

I'm new to the site but I've found it very helpful so far.

Yes- works fine. Going to the dealer this week to address the HVAC recall, and will be asking them to flash my software for the Controller.
