well I've been to 2 dodge dealers in town and neither can hook up the 2010 brake controller. I also tried myself but my truck does not have the white wire with blue stripe needed. I've tried everything I can think to find a wiring diagram to locate the matching CAN bus wires but no luck. maybe it is not possible on the 2009. bummer

I've just installed the controller per the instructions in this thread and I'm having a problem.

I too was missing the small CAN connected; and had to wire it up.

The problem is the controller just shows an error code CF, and the trailer icon just flashes. This stays this way whether the trailer is connected or not.

I'm pretty certain I've wired it correctly per the thread info.

Also, I previously had a Tekonsha controller installed and it was working fine, so I'm sure the main wiring is OK.

I'm getting near my wits end on this controller, it's turning into a huge problem. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

CF means controller fault. Return it for an exchange.

Someone else on this thread also got a bad unit the first time.

Thanks Netmann, I was afraid that was what the problem was.

Can it be exchanged? Usually electrical parts are hard to exchange.

I would think so, yes. Defective product is certainly a warranty issue.

Default 2009 Dodge Ram Laramie

I have the 4 pin connector and the 7 pin connector on the bumper of my '09 Laramie from the factory. Is there a way to install the factory trailer brake on this beast? I see the big blue 4 pin connector under the dash but that's all I can see.

I took my truck into the local Dodge dealership and they ordered the OEM trailer brake for it. About 2 weeks later I get a call to setup and install the trailer brake. After about an hour they called me and said it wont work! I told the gentleman on the phone that there might be a kit (from my readings here ) that will allow it to work with my truck he said he would talk to the service tech about it and call me back.

About an hour later he calls and said the service tech would get a connector and try that, but there was no guarantee that it would work...so when I got home I looked under the dash and I see these little buggers attached to a few wires (were they in fact trying the same fix that other users have done in this forum?) Regardless, is it physically possible to install this brake in my 09 truck? I so badly want this to work, I do not want some 3rd trailer brake hanging down by my feet looking like crap! And from what Im told, they would have to drill through my firewall to run wires! I just cant bring myself to do that!

Is there a way? Is something I can printout to give to the tech? Anything?

Please help!!!

I hear you pain, but the truth is that although they're not as nice to look at, the third party controllers work with more braking systems and often do a better job of stopping your trailer than the factory controller. For instance, if your trailer brakes are electric over hydraulic, you'd need to get a 3rd party controller anyway.

I tell you this because I was initially peeved that the factory controller didn't seem to work in the '09's, but after some research I'm more than happy with my Tekonsha.

In doing some more digging under the dash...I found all the wires that were in ken99's .pdf file so I think I could do this in my 09 dodge if the dealership wont, but I wonder if it can be flashed by the dealership?

Can someone verify if I have the right wires?

I am looking at the same thing with my 2010 (really early build date), the 3 wires for the B connector look correct but not so sure on the plug for the A connector. However I read somewhere earlier in this thread that the plug off of an older ford truck would work for the A connector but would need to be reconfigured.

I ordered the controller and bezel from my dealer and should have it by the 28th, hopefully the install will go well. I will be splicing into the same wires for the B connector so we shall see.

As far as being flashed? I have no idea. Sorry
