Your build sheet says "trailer tow w/ 4-pin connector wiring". This means the truck was wired to only accept standard 4-wire aftermarket controllers. See my notes on post #37 (http://www.ramforumz.com/showpost.ph...3&postcount=37) of this thread.

Ah, so it is possible to get it to work. I will be getting one and following your guide. My education is in Control systems so the wiring should be elementary for me.

Did you try the EVIC reflash after installing it this way?

Also what did you use to connect the spliced wires to the controller? Is there a pig tail connector out there i could buy or is there a certain connector you used to slide on over the pins?

Does the brake dim with the dash lights? IE using it at night I like to have my interior pretty dim to keep my eyes adjusted for the road, just wondering goes the light for the controller dim also? If no is it possible the unused pin could be for dimming? Or perhaps the fused line should be connected to a power source at reduces voltage with the dimming of the interior lights?

No for two reasons. 1) I don't care if the controller displays on the EVIC. With a proportional controller, I spend time adjusting it for the load I have at the moment for a specific trip and then largely leave it alone. Any tweak would be no more than a + or - one setting. 2) I figure my dealership would balk at my customization and possibly void my warrenty.

I used these:

ACE Hardware Part #3015393.

Supposedly Chrysler is developing an aftermarket pigtail kit to add the harness to trucks that do not have it. Availablility is fall 2010, but my dodge parts guy say don't expect to see it until January 2011.

I cannot answer your questions. I haven't driven the truck at night with a trailer connected. Will do so this weekend, so I will pay attention to the display. All the documentation I've seen indicates the unused pin is exactly that, but yes, it could have an undocumented function.

Glad to help.

When I informed the parts dept that I had been able to make the controller work in my truck, they admitted Chrysler has issued TSB stating an adapter kit to retrofit the "B" harness would be available in late 2010. Until then I guess the "official" word is the factory controller cannot be made to work with these trucks.

Thank you Ken, this is way over and above. I appriciate it!

Default Everything Works

So after Kens excellent instructions, I crafted the wires the same way as described in his posts. I took the truck in today to have it flashed. The service people told me that they never do this when adding the ITBC. Together we went out and spoke to a technician and I told him about some of the other information I gathered in the posts... They have to add a sales code to the build for the truck (XHC or XHCA) in the Dealer Connect system, and then wait 30 minutes then re-flash the truck. The tech knew right away what I was talking about. As described in other posts, the tech knew a lot more then the service manager about how the vehicle systems work. After that they added the sales code to the build, I left and came back an hour later and they flashed the truck. The brake shows up now in the EVIC. It pops up on the screen when you go to the Vehicle Info menu (2nd to last screen in my truck), when you press the manual brake button, or when you adjust the levels. I have not tried to tow with it yet since it was flashed, but we're getting ready to head to the out this weekend to go camping, so we will see how it works then.

The dealer did charge me a half hour labor for this. Thanks again for all the help you guys provided in these posts!

Mike

Mike - Is there a difference in the two codes as far as application is concerned?
