I personally would stay away from the 46RE automatic trans. That is teh notorious trans that messed up alot during that gen ram if u can find one from 02 and up 1500's they are more reliable. u can look online at tuning shops that u might be able to send ur PCM to get flashed when u do that they can enter in all the extras u installed i.e. heads and cam and so on. Doing this should eliminate the the performance tuner but still adding one is always recommended.

This sounds like a pretty good project! I do not know much on engine swaps and wiring harnesses. I just wanted to chime in and let you know this is a great project!

Those mods that you are planning on doing to the motor should be able to pull a boat no problem! Good luck with everything, keep us posted with the progress!!

Thanks for all the info!! And yes there will be pics through the process of this. I just been promoted to supervisor at work so it's taken alot of time away from the truck but that will change after I get settle in. Just about everybody telling me to buy another Ram but I'm happy with this one (it's paid for!!) and it's been twenty years since the last time I built an engine
('69 Z28,302) so I'm excited to get this started. like I stated early, the change out will be sometime this fall if all goes as plan. The rebuilding of the 360 will probably start in July. Still undecided about boring it 30 over or not. have till July. Concern about how much that will hurt on mpgand my budget I have setup for this. Plenty of time to sort it out.

Just an update where am at. Getting the block back tomorrow. Engine is bored 30 over, so I have new pistons. Crank is polish and everything balance. Will order a cam when I pickup everything from the machine shop. Will have the original heads look at in August to see if they're crank. Was not aware magnum heads are known to crack. Then I'll decide which direction to take on that. Already know what intake manifold I'm getting. So as long as this 5.2 last the better. Don't what to rush this.
Transmission was replace with an after market tranny (very solid so far), Have done a larger transmission cooler.

Going from the 5.2 to the 5.9 you will need to change the convertor . The 5.9's are externally balanced . If you don't , you will have an unusual vibration .

Yes am aware of this and it's all taken care of. Didn't realize these engines (5.9) are externally balance. Had to locate a flex plate to finish the balancing of the engine. What was Dodge thinking when they did this? All good now to get this together soon. My daughter wants to help on the project so this is turning into a father, son and daughter project. Be a great experience for them.

Well I have the engine short block for a few weeks now. Got the heads check and they were crack so I'm waiting until I get the cash together to buy a pair of R/T heads. The cam I Installed is an Comp Cam (XR258 part #20-744-9).
