Short block the engine myself. It's been 25 years since the last time I did anything like this so it's still easy to do. All the machine work was done by a local shop here who races on the weekends.

How much did the R/T heads cost you and did you need to change the rods and lifters to accomadate the heads or do the stocks fit 'em?

After searching the web on Mopar performance parts, I decided on Hughes Engines (www.hughesengines.com) Magnum Iron Heads (HUG 4670). From what I have read and talking to their techs, this was the best way to go for the cost. As for the push rods, Hughes size up what I needed with the cam I have in the engine. The lifters are the one they use for their build up (HUG 5006).

The engine that I brought had over 200,000 miles on it. After this rebuild, the only parts that are original will be the block, crank and rods. When tearing down the engine, the original cam had a flat lobe on #5 and both cylinder heads where cracked.

During this build, my 5.2 in my truck started acting up last fall. But after trouble shooting the problems and cleaning the TB, it running better than it has in years! So I’m taking my time now on the 360. By the way my 318 has over 220,000 miles on it now! Debating whether to change out the plenum gasket this spring.

Still need a few more items to buy to round this project out.

Parts arrive yesterday from Hughes. Before installing I'm going to do a little porting on the heads to clean them up a little.

Nice setup Paul. I can only wish to polish my heads up to look like yours. Im sticking with my stock 5.9 heads (not my first choice). How much porting did you do? machine shop or DIY?

The Iron Heads are new casting. Hughes did the machine work on getting the valves seated. I'm just doing a little porting on them before the install so they're have better CFM [URL="http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/engine/mopp_0407_magnum_rt_cylinder_heads/index.html"]
I'm in no rush on doing this part so it will be a couple of weeks before the heads are on the block. Started yesterday on one of the heads and I should be done with it by tomorow night. Next weekend have other plans with the family.
