Default How do you like your CAI?

So I'm weighing whether or not to buy a CAI. I kinda want one, but am conflicted as to if it's gonna do much. If it gives a little more power or better MPG, great! But will it actually?...
So for those of you who DO have a CAI, what have you noticed, if anything, and was it a worthwhile investment? Or does it just look cool under the hood?
Also, I kinda like the fact that the new Rams are nice & quiet inside, unlike my old Ford where all u could hear was road noise. So am I gonna be bothered by the sound of the CAI? I dunno...

In my 05 I had an Airaid intake and I loved it, made a huge improvement in sound and I noticed a good increase in power. Stacked with a chip I was pretty happy with the results. My 09 now I'm gonna be going with the BFI cai stacked with the predator for many different reasons...

Hope that helps

I have an Airaid too. I like the sound and look, but I really don' t think it is that much of a difference in power or MPG's. I may have gone up to maybe 1 MPG better, but that's it. If I were to do it again, I would have put in a drop in high performance K&N and used all the money I saved on something else.
Also, the stock air box pulls air in from the fender wall already so it is a pretty good setup for stock.

Funny you mention that, that was exactly what I was thinking!
We already have a stock CAI...just not the big fancy cone filter...

Isn't that what the AFE Stage I kit does? I believe it replaces the top of your stock airbox and your filter (Pro-Dry cone) then hooks up to your stock intake tube. Maddog, aren't you getting one of these? Can you confirm?

Maybe I'll get one of these ($180 vs. $310!!!) and then look into options for replacing the ribbed/corrugated stock intake tube. Hmmmm...more research needed!

I have a K&N CAI. I cant remember what series it is but its all black polymer. I think it sounds pretty cool but as long as you don't have your foot in it you really won't notice any noise. As far as mileage I noticed about 1 mpg better which will pay for itself in the long run. I would suggest looking on craigslist before you buy a brand new one. I bought mine off craigslist for $100 and it was pretty much spotless. The guy took really good care of it.

The Airaid in intake keeps the inlet in the fender well coming into the air box and it seals up against the bottom of the hood, plus it comes with a much larger air filter than the stock one. I noticed a couple of mpg on my truck with noticable power increase. It is quite a bit louder than the stock setup though.

the difference between the CAI and stock box will be surface area of the filter and the freedom to breathe. CAI breathe easier and more freely...add a aftermarket exhaust to your CAI and watch the truck really come to life...more air in the front...moore air out the back and more power means use more fuel...I had one loved it but in the cold all that freezing air caused havoc to my mpg...as well my dealer is not friendly towards them.

Something about lack of back pressure and premature buring out valves cause they cant cool themselves properly...
