does adding something as simple as a 14" mufflex count as a real exhaust upgrade, or would other warranty busting upgrades need to be done too?

I just put a Volant CAI and a Gibson single on my 5.7. First time I ever modded a truck or car before inspecting what I had, just really wanted the CAI. Completely wrong move. The stock are box is a good one. I wish i had saved the money! Who cares about a potential 17Hp at WOT in a 7000lb truck. The Volant unit doesn't really pull air from outside the truck, the stock unit does a better job of pulling outside air. I have not seen an ounce of improvement in MPH of HP. If I would have just taken my time I never would have wasted the money. The exhaust is awesome though, sounds great.

Mine is great.............90% of it is homemade......K$N CAI filter is the only thing purchased.

I just did the K&N drop in & it does a great job of pulling in cold air. You can feel the intake manifold & it's cool!
I think all the aftermarket cones do is make big noise at WOT.

So let me get this straight, because there seems to be slighly mixed opinions,, when you say using the K&N drop in, your just taking about the filter element itself, right? Does that actually make a diffrence ?

It will make as much diff as a $250 CAI system if you replace the 4" corregated rubber intake tubing section with a straight flow plastic piece (about 9" long) with 2 4" clamps.
Most of the systems that say they seal to the hood are still getting hot air exposure.
The stock system is enclosed & pulls air in from the fender & doesn't expose it to the hot hood.
You really don't need an open cone unless you are pulling in way more air like with a supercharger.
Oh, you probably won't notice much diff because these Hemi's are making about 400 hp & 10 - 15 more hp is not going to be noticeable.
