Default Headers/Exhaust

Ok, so I'm starting my piggy bank up for new headers and full exhaust. I want true duals all the way back and have about 1000-1200 to spend in total (including installation). I wanted to know what some of you may suggest. I'd like to stick with Magnaflo for the lifetime warranty, however I have also thought about flowmaster just for their sound. As far as header go, for the most part I've only been able to find shorty's, since the only long tubes I've found say they are for off-roading only. My truck is an '06 4.7L 4x4 extended/mega cab. Never could figure that part out. Here's a picture of it:

So what does everyone suggest?

I used Gibson Shorties. Jba also makes Shorties for your truck. Magnaflow is a great muffler from what ive heard from other 4.7l owners. Keep us posted.

I've used JBA headers before and they are well made with a nice thick mounting flange so it won't warp at the head and create a leak.

When installing headers, I've found that the Stage 8 fasteners are great as they won't back out of the hole.

I've also found that the gaskets provided are pretty cheap and in some cases don't seal well. Check out Summit and see if there isn't a set of gaskets for your truck under the "Earl's Pressure Master Seals" section. They really do seal well and are beefy enough that they won't blow out.

Exhaust choices based on sound are pretty subjective. What sounds good to me may not sound good to you and vice versa.

I've had Flowmasters on two vehicles, Magnaflows on three vehicles. I personally prefer the Magnaflow mufflers. I made that choice after listening to several systems online.

I recommend using stock gaskets instead of the cardboard ones they send with headers.

The stock ones hold up real good.

Good point! That might be the cheapest and easiest fix on gaskets.

I've not had good luck using stock gaskets when installing headers but it wasn't a Dodge vehicle I was modifying so the stockers may be better than what they were some years ago.

I'm on a few different forums and all of them say that stock is the way to go with exhaust manifold gaskets. I also heard that jba Shorties are build pretty good.
