Default Volant CAI - How long?

Hey everyone! Well I've put about 1.5 tanks of gas "through" my new Volant CAI and I was wondering to all those who have a CAI how long it took for you to start to see MPG gains? I understand that some of you it was hard to keep your foot off the throttle (as I have gunned it maybe 3 times) however I still consider myself a very conservative driver. I'm maybe seeing anywhere between .5-1.0 mpg increase. I wasn't expecting a huge jump from my 15.3 average (based off my fuel log book on gasbuddy.com) but I was hoping for at lease 2mpg increase as that is half of what the mfg advertises. I really wanted to order the air scoop for it, however since I have fog lights in place where the scoop draws air from, I won't be able to order the factory designed one. I was thinking of adding my own using either 4" pvc piping or rubber hosing and have it come up just infront of my radiator so it could draw the cold air from the grill. The only problem is whatever material I use will have to have a U-bend in it and that, to me, would restrict the air flow. If you're not familiar with the Volant design, take a quick look on their website to see what I'm talking about. Basically the air scoop hooks to the bottom where there is a striaght shaft that points down from the filter box. The air scoop attaches to that and is originally suppose to attach to the fog light which is about 14" from the end of that shaft. My design would have to make that go down, under the cross bar that is in front of the radiator and back up where there is room right behind the grill. So it's a down and up configuration. I guess I could always play around with a few things, but I wanted to know what the best material would be for something like this. I wish I knew someone with a blow-mold machine! Thanks guys for everything!

Wonder about a scoop right behind the passenger headlight that funnels air over towards the air box...

Is there enough air flow behind the light to make it worthwhile? I agree, the shorter distance the air has to travel the better but the air flow has to be there first.

If you could funnel it from the grille, but the scoop would have to be about 2 inches wide and almost 10 inches tall...

Hmmm, almost doesn't seem worth it. I'll keep thinking of things and let you know if I come up with anything concrete! In the mean time, I'm debating between getting a PC 7545 polisher with all the trimmings or saving a bit more and getting either the Gibson Headers or JBA Headers along with a complete cat back exhaust featuring magnaflo's muffler. According to autoanything.com the JBA headers are not emission leagal and are for off-road use only. The Gibson headers are a few hundred more but don't state such. Any suggestions?
