Default MPG Check 17.51 - What's yours??

Well, I finally got away for a bit this weekend and took a small 200 mile trip.

Filled up at the same station both before hitting the road and on my return.

Ticket says I averaged 17.51 MPG and that was with cruise set at 73 MPH and the occasional speed to 80 or so while passing. Along with this I towed a boat about 8 miles on the island and a certain amount of time idling at hookup and at boat launch. I also took a 20 mile detour off the slab to go through a few small towns and stopped and looked at some enclosed trailers for sale while leaving the truck idle.

So all told I am quite impressed with the mileage.

I quit playing with the MPG on the dash and haven't reset it in the last 6 or 8 tank fills (mid-Winter) and it now reads 17.2 MPG. So I am happy with that too.

My truck is finally broke in and I have now a tad over 5k miles on it now.

The MDS works fine but the highest speed I ever seen it working was 45 MPH unless I was rolling downhill.

So what are your readings?

Mohawk

How can you tell if the MDS is working? I never see a readout on my 2010 2500 Hemi that says it is on, even when going down hill and the instant readout says that i am getting 25mpg. Thanks for the help

Not too bad. A couple weeks back I went on vacation to the Smoky Mountains in TN. I averaged 22 mpg for the whole trip. Pretty much the whole time with 4 adults and the truck bed loaded up to the rails with gear. I drove between 70-75 mph the whole time on the highways. I am now just a tad over 4k miles. LOL

I was wondering what gears you have also? 2WD or 4WD?

I have not yet got mine out on the road only back and forth to work that is 3 miles away and seeing 14.7 MPG. I am heading up to the cabin this Friday and looking forward to see how it does on a trip longer than to the grocery store.

Damn I need to get a Ram with the new Hemi in it. The last trip I took (about 100-150 mi) I was lucky to get 15-16mpg on the highway with my cruise on 70 and I have a K&N CAI, Flowmaster duals and my hypertech programmer set on 87 octane.

Thumbs up

I got 20MPG on a 200 mile all highway drive. Very impressed with a truck that's over 6,000 lbs. WTG HEMI ...

my ram is always 6,100 pounds & the best mileage is 17.4, most Rams 1500s are 1,000 pounds lighter, but, i have a heavy toolbox behind the rear axle & a lighter one in the front of my truck bed, it is also a 30 gallon auxiliary gas tank, but, i have yet to fill it up, gasoline weighs 6.25 lbs per gallon of gas at 72 degrees F, times 30 = 187.5 pounds, but it will give me about a range of 1,079 miles per fuel up
a semi truck can do 700 between fuel stops, so i'm good to follow one all day long, with just a quick transfer
