Default Which thermostat?



So, I'm still waiting to recieve my Predator, can't wait. In fact, I've been reading up on them to help pass the time. I read something about changing the thermostat from the 203F to a 185F, and being able to tell the Hemi's computer that a change has been made to it can recalibrate, or whatever it does. If a guy can help the motor run cooler, this must be a good thing.

This is my question...How many people here have replaced their thermostats to run cooler? And, does it help?

Got a Jet 180 deg T-stat in mine. Does run cooler than before especially when I'm running high RPM on the freeway for long periods

Yes they do make it run cooler which should give little performance benefits.

Cool, thanks for the info. I got the Predator, but it doesn't work. I called Diablo, they said that they are working on an update and it may be out in about two weeks. If it does ever get to working correctly I think I'll go with the 180 degree thermo.

now i may be wrong here and please correct me if i am. but i was reading somewhere that when you do put in a cooler thermostat it will improve HP the life of the engine will be shortened due to the engine fluids becoming more acidic from the cooler temps? and what kind of gains is there to it? also a possible loss to mpg?

Cooler engines are more efficient.

205 or higher (depending on your stock tstat) vs. 185 as a normal running temp won't cause an acidic problem.

What some folks do is go too low, like to 170 degree tstat. The engine never warms up properly and some throw a code.

You'll be fine with a 180 degree tstat. Mine warms up just fine, runs around 185 to 189 in stop and go, drops down to 181 down the highway.
