Default Antenna Help.

Greetings All, I have been a little slow on the forum, my wife tor her meniscus and so I have been helping her around a lot. She goes for Surgery on Friday... so please keep her in your prayers.

On to a quick question... Anyone out there with a 09 or 10 with a CB or other type of antenna installed and mounted under the hood? or is there a bracket or way to install on the bed with a Fiberglass bed cover?

I bought the Wilson 5000 Magnetic Mount and then the 1000 magnetic mount antennas for my new CB.. but even on my Caddy its like almost 12' tall overall height... which I think is way too high for driving around my neighborhood. So I want to get an antenna mounted to my hood... or elsewhere that is reasonable.

If you have a 09 or 10 with an antenna mounted, can you post a picture of your antenna mount and let me know where you got the bracket and what you think of it.

Thanks!!

Tim

That's a tough one Tim, I have the hood mount and I like it a lot. If I didn't have a fiberglass lid, I would have bought a toolbox and gotten a dual-antenna setup. The only 4th gen Rams I've seen with CB antennas have been a roof mount. There's this setup here, but like you said, the bed cover would get in the way

Hi Tim, can't help you out with info on the antenna however wanted to wish your wife good luck on her surgery. Is it being scoped ? I had mine done twice and the recovery time is pretty quick. Take care......

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I really appreciate it. The doc said it should be an easy procedure. The issue with my wife is that she has bad reactions to anesthesia. So hopefully they will be able to do something for her.

Cadet... I seen that photo somewhere... and in fact found mounts to mount in the square holes on the bedrail like that. I even found one that mounts in the square hole and the antenna is off to the outer side of the truck.. but still the cover will mess with it.

I found out there is a alternate Whip for the Wilson 1000 and Wilson 5000 called a Short Load Whip. Its 39" tall. But I think I will loose some performance with it.

Cadet... which antenna do you use? How long is the whip?

Thanks for the replies.

Tim

I have a 4' FireStik antenna with a dome mount (maximum height for a hood mount) Anyway, here's a reference picture of how mine is mounted (with the exception of the dome mount)

Yea.. thats it!! But could not find it for the 09 or 10's Until 2 minutes ago!!!

http://www.wearecb.com/store/cb-radi...ps-p-3851.html

From 2004 on up.

The difference between that one and yours cadet is the double crease... so maybe that will make it work with the 2009 and 2010s

I can order everything except the radio.. and give it a shot. This kit comes with 5" antenna... you mentioned Max. 4' Is that a restriction in your area?

Do you have the original Firestik or the Tunable one?

Any benefit to having the dome?

Tim

Wish your wife well!

I run my Wilson full length antenna hard wired thru the roof. I run the short loaded whip in town. There is some loss with the shorty, BUT nowhere close to the loss you will have with a fender mount. Antenna rules: 1) SWR, 2) ground plain, 3) heigth, 3) length. The best CB antenna, bar non, is an 8' whip in the center of the roof. Not good for clearances, so do the best you can other than the best. It's a balance of radio performance and practability.

Good luck.

Appreciate the reply Studbuster.

I dont want to put hole in the roof just yet. So your saying stick with my Wilson 1000 or Wilson 5000 and buy the shorty and swap as needed?

Thanks again.

Tim

You like the
Tim, here's a better representation of what I have:

According to my CB guy, 4' is the max that mount is made for, which wasn't a problem with me. I'll be honest, I got the dome because I think it looks really cool on there
