ok so i did something stupid and that got me thinking this would be a good thread to see what you all did when you started doing work on cars for the first times

the first thing i did many of you already know i tryed installing a radio myself and well now no one allows me around electrical because there was a fire LMAO another time i was jumping starting a car and well fire 2 yes i have taken paint off with a power washer LOL this morning i painted my cup holder and ash try for my older truck and well it rained while they were outside so..... i have dropped bolts down into the abyss many times, ever through a tool down and it bounced back up and dented the car? or hit you? how about not test something and put all of the parts back to find out it was defective? thats why i dont work on my newer truck

so theres mine what are yours

This is a great thread-starter, Hemi. I know I have had some "DOH!" moments, but none come to mind now. I will be thinking and get back to you!

1. Never leave your antenna on when going through a car wash...... trust me

2. Wash your vehicle yourself, things go a lot smoother

i've never gotten into anything that i couldn't figure out or complete. i am very mechanically inclined and have an engineering degree so i think i know something about everything lol. i like to take things apart and see how they work or what i can do differently with them.

one thing i absolutely hate though, are those pop screw things. usually found on door panels and interior panels. or on the platic cover under the mood on my 09 ram to get to the grille....

great thread! i once worked with a guy that drove a company truck and he would purposely roll down the window on your side while driving through the car wash and hold it down. while it would piss you off at first, it became hysterical

I guess that is one way to address personal hygiene without being overly offensive!

I am notorious for dropping 1 bolt while working on something and having it never found again. Actually dropped a 8" water pump bolt while swapping out on the '98 Dodge into an engine bay w/out fan shroud and never found it again.
I've plugged many things in backwards and multiple times found an internal bolt or part that required taking apart everything i did to put it in. That is aggrevating.
But never destroyed anything beyond repair,, so lucky about that.

When doing some wiring I usually see some sparks/fire from somewhere, then I panic, then I realize it stopped and go get more wire. I heart fuses, and relays.
