Question Adding a Winch??

I'm thinking about tucking a winch up under my hood. What I'm wanting to do is weld a sturdy piece of channel iron to both sides of my frame and put 45 degree braces on all corners to strengthen it. Then just mount the winch on the channel iron, and have the cable coming out of where the tow hooks were. Do you think this will be strong enough and has anyone tried anything like this?

maybe Im no longer considered new here... But I have a newbe question.

What does "bumping it up" mean? I see this from time to time on here. Does it mean you are bumping up the thread to the top of the list again for more exposure?

Sorry for the ignorance.

Tim

It's refreshing a thread that might've been lost, usanswered or has a reason to be moved or "bumped" back to the top of the "new posts" option.

That photo I found is from a power wagon and that's a mopar setup that costs about $2,000 bucks. It won't fit on a Ram 1500. If you want to add the winch to your truck in the front it looks like it won't work because you won't have enough space between the bumper and the intercooler/radiator. It might be more complicated than you think.

Ya i was never real sure if it would work but that is also a 12,000 lb winch i'm only going for about a 8,000 so it would drop in size a little bit. But yes it would be a tight fit and hard to get a good weld on it so i might just drop the idea and get a new front bumper with the winch housing built in. I know its just 1500 but don't tell the truck that "I don't think it knows" lol
