Default Dirt Builds Up in the Bed of My Truck

I have owned a number of pick up trucks over the years. I have had caps installed on each one that I have owned. I recently installed an ARE Z -Series cap on my truck. Ever since I installed the cap it is amazing how much dirt and dust that continues to accumulate in the bed of the truck. The vehicle is never driven on dirt roads. On any other truck I have ever had you could probably hose out the back maybe once a year. This truck probably once a month?

You can tell that it is not an issue with the fit of the cap itself. The dirt appears to originate around the tailgate as the dirt is "thicker" near the edges.

I have attached a picture from another posting. There is rectangular hole located at the rear of the bed of the truck. In this picture it appears to hold the wiring harness for the rear camera option. On my vehicle the hole is simply open. I think that this hole maybe some of the reason for the air flow blowing dirt and dust into the box of the truck.

I am curious if anyone else has found this to be a problem and is there supposed to be some sort of rubber plug covering this hole.

Thanks,

Steve

I don't know about your particular truck, but, my '09 has a huge gap between the tailgate & the bed sides, I can see the ground on both sides of my tailgate, when am standing up by the cab
my Dodge Ram bed & tailgate are probably the worst made piece of crap ever in a pickup, no wonder they put plastic on top of the bed rails & tailgate, there are so many holes under those plastic pieces, it makes me wonder what they were thinking

Covers do the same thing. Go get a weather seal for like 30 bucks and put that on. It will seal the gap that lets dust get sucked in like a vacuum through between the tailgate and bed.

I put on a Truxedo with the seal kit and don't have any dirt issues. I made sure and put the bottom seal way down low, actually below that big hole in your pic, and it works great. I had Line-X seal up the holes by the tie downs and the drain holes in the front of the bed too. I tried to put the weather strip up higher, but the gate would just push it down and rip it off, so by putting it lower, it seals from the bottom of the tailgate instead of the side of it. It also helps protect the seal by being so low. Good Luck!
