I will admit, a dog will help. Especially the one I have. A 95lb german shepherd with a killer sounding bark. Funny thing is though, he wouldn't hurt a fly. He'll run if you come after him, just sounds mean
And that is an older pic of him...lol

I checked with a couple buddies in law enforcement last night and they agree with you folks, a shotgun is the way to go. A dog is a great idea too but I lease the house and pets are not allowed.

I have owned rifles, shotguns, handguns when I was younger and been through a safety course though that was 30+ years ago.

shoot now, ask questions later.

In defense of your home and your life, whats anyone going to say? Doesn't matter if they were unarmed, they were a threat.

Also, in Florida, they have this fancy little way of law writing that makes it so, if someone were to break into your house, and you have a safe in the closet with a shotgun resting on it. If they pick up that shotgun and move it so they can get to the safe, they have now commited and armed burglary. Thats big time in prison.
So, if they move a knife, a gun, or anything that could be considered a weapon, than get caught, they're screwged

I am so sorry to hear about your incedent! No matter what anyone says, there is a sick feeling you will carry for weeks, so keep as busy as possible to try to keep your mind off it....posting here on a regular basis is IMO good therapy!

.22 cal - Inexpensive and easy to handle, cheap and readily available ammo, safe for the neighbors, and non-lethal except for either a fluke shot, OR incredible accuracy!

As I'm in Canada, we have laws 'To Protect Us' that don't allow for this kind of 'Home Defence'....so I use a 12ga. Only used it once (No shot, just wad)....Highly effective! (BTW, round 3 was real.....just in case!)

Good Luck in finding a solution that you are comfortable with, and gives you peace of mind. And remember, the Z is always here, and we will help anyway we can.

a person that was always having his home broken into, nothing of great value was ever taken, just food, smokes, alcohol, etc.
he got tired of it, put up 4 small cameras outside, a few of those baby sitter cameras inside.
a couple days later he checked the tape on the recorders, because something was out of place in the house, there was the thieves, wearing black hooded sweat shirts, walking around like they owned the place.
He made a 2nd copy of the tape, called the cops, they showed up asked for the tape & nothing was happening fast enough for him, so he took the copy & gave it to a friend of friend & it was put on the local news.
he got his butt chewed out by the law, but, now there are 2 older kids waiting for their trial date

I suggest a dog first. Second option pistol. If you are not a good shot get a small shotgun that way with bird shot you can still get desired results and not worry about a round penetrating your neighbours house.

Why is it that all miniature poodles in that color have names that start with the letter P. I know many around here - Peppy, Petey, pepper, paprika, Paultte, Poody.....

Hey don't know man . We named patches on the way back from Bracebridge with the kids (she has lots of black spots on her). Puddles got her name because she just can't hold it all the time . Sorry did not mean to hijack this thread, just answering Brads question. We can continue now as I have great sympathy for someone having to go through a bad home invasion situation.

Tarus makes a big revolver called the Judge. No complicated slides, safeties or long barrels. Just point and squeeze. Roll up two #9 shot first followed by two 000 buck shot finished off by a slug. Stun 'em with the bird shot, get their attention with the buck shot and finish with the slug.....

"I was so afraid, I was terrified for my life (key words, commit them to memory) and didn't realize I shot that many times."
