Default transmission cooler?

I have a 1998 Ram 1500, 5.2 318. Does this truck come stock with a tranny cooler? I am still in Afghanistan, and for the life of me I cant remember if there is one on my truck.

They have these on ebay, and im going to buy one if my truck doesnt have it.

it depends what packages your truck was ordered with and all.

But, if you have a little cooler on the front of the a/c condesor able to be seen through the grille, then yes you do. As a matter a fact, mine runs through the radiator and its own dedicated cooler. Not sure if the rad part is stock, but, I have seen many of them with the dedicated cooler.

Strang3majik Is correct about the small tranny cooler that is between the ac condesor and radiator. And going thru the radiator. I'm getting ready to go to my third transmission in my truck and I'm installing a larger external cooler. Transmission shop recommend a larger cooler due to the nature of these trannys. Also if you haven't removed the check valve that is by the radiator, do it. They have been a problem also.

Yeah, it does depend on how the truck was equipped for towing and gears when it was built. If you have the stock Class III receiver hitch and wiring, I suspect you do have one.

It would be hard to see your truck in Ohio from Afganistan, but, have someone pop your hood & take a picture or 2 of the whole radiator area & then they could email it to you & you could post it in here

Thanks for the reply's. I will have someone check it out. Sounds like I should buy a bigger one even if there is a stock one.

PAUL89

thanks for the tip on the check valve. I will do that as well.

Just turn the overdrive off when you tow or haul heavy stuff, and your tranny will be fine. And change the fluid and filter at regular intervals as well.

Thats with the trans cooler though. Those are very good to have.

You might want to consider adding a transmission temp gauge as well. That should be part of any instrumentation/towing package IMNSHO.
