Default Outside mirror "ground lights" stay on too long

Just got a 2010 Ram 1500 Big Horn. (my third Ram since 1997) When I close the door the interior lights shut off in 30 sec but the outside mirror lights stay on for 12 minutes. If I lock the doors with the remote they go off. Dealer told me to check the manual, (no help). Is there an adjustment for this or is it a sensor problem?

Thanks
Mark

Welcome to the RAMz, this is a great place to be. FYI, Mine does exactly the same thing and as far as I know there is no adjustment. I think it actually looks pretty cool and they do eventually turn off (like you said in 12 mins or so). We love pics on this site so if you have any post them up. Enjoy the forum..........

Glad you joined us Mark and welcome to the Z for Rams from Baltimore . Not sure myself . It must be adjustable . On my 300 theres a bunch of stuff adjustable through the personal settings on the dash . If you could go to the top of the page to the User Cp and complete your profile that would be great . Helps us see what you have when your posting a question or comment . Do you have any pictures of your truck ? Have you done any mods or have plans for any ? Any of your friends have Rams ? Tell them about us . We would love to have them . You will find this site is full of a lot of talented people . So if theres any question that you need answered , just shoot away . Talk to ya soon . Tom

Welcome you to the forum Mark,

Mine are the same on my 2010 Sport, and I like them! They are NOT user adjustable, and I don't believe the dealer can change them either. The EVIC will allow you to change a lot of things, but this is not one of them...and just to be sure, I ran out to my truck to check just before posting here. Remember, you DO have the option to turn them off by locking with the RKE, so you can choose if and when you have them on or off. After you've had the truck awhile, I think you'll really like them!
If your worried about battery life, don't....the lights are LED and they draw almost no power. If left on 24/7, it will take about a month to kill the battery....maybe longer.

This forum is full of great looking trucks, and packed with great mod ideas and there are loads of knowledgeable and experienced people here.

AND - We all like pix! Got any to share ?

Enjoy the Z!

I haven't noticed this with my truck.

In the SYSTEM SETUP under ILLUMINATED APPROACH you can set it to OFF, 30, 60, or 90 seconds.

It makes no sense to me for those lights to stay on for 12 minutes.

Thanks, it really makes no sense to be on that long. I like the truck so far, although I may look into raising the front end a couple of inches to match the rear height. It feels more like a luxury car than a truck. Of course it rides great compared to my 01' 2500. I do miss the 2500 but the 10 MPG (4:11 gears) was a bit too much to take. Not to mention the doors started rusting out after four pampered years.

Yah, but only affects what it does when you hit the unlock button. This 12 min thing is when you exit the truck...and is not affected by the exit delay either.
If it wasn't so wide spread...I'd call it a 'Random Feature'.

So the lights only stay on when you have had your headlights on, turn the truck off, turn the headlights off*, get out of the truck and then lock the truck with the remote?

*Although you probably have the automatic headlights...lets simplify this for a second

If that is the case, try turning the headlights off before you turn the truck off and see what happens...i know with my dads dakota and my parents caravan if you turned them off before the headlights, the headlights would stay on for a couple minutes
