Default Brake lines rusted

Let's say, for the sake of saying, that I have a truck with wicked rusted brake lines. In fact, it is a 1999, 2500 4x4 and the brake lines are so rusted that it looks like the truck was on the titanic's showroom for a while. The left rear line has sprung a leak. the line that is broken is, of course, the one that runs the entire length of the truck. It looks like I am going to have to take the gas tank off to get to it.

Question: ABout how much can I expect to pay a standard repair shop to replace the brake lines?

Question 2: Is it possible to do it myself?

You can do it yourself. And brake lines, preformed for your truck are available.

I suspect a shop is gonna charge you somewhere North of $750 to do the work.

Brake line replacement costs vary depending on how far the line has to be replaced and accessibility . Most shops will bend up and flare the line as needed . Most dealerships I've contacted say they don't sell pre-bent lines . I would rather install a pre-bent if their available . What a pain to try and make your own . I've been under my hood today and also noticed I'm gonna need some attention there soon on mine .

I have to agree with what was said above. If you get pre bent lines it shouln't be to hard to install yourself. If not then you may want to get it installed by a pro. I know for my truck I would want someone that knows what they are doing installing it. I would not want to screw up and hve no brakes or something. That would not be too pretty!

While you don't have to take the tank off to perform this repair, it's usually best to so you can follow the original line. Well, Looks like i'm getting ready to tackle a similar situation on my '94. there are too many things that need to be done and its not worth spending all that dough so i'm gonna have to try and do this one myself. as of now I have two lines leaking. i'm starting with the front one, i'm thinking of using Cunifer™ copper nickel alloy lines instead of steel. has anyone used this stuff? is it worth the extra cash?

Ended up getting "poly armor" a coated steel line from Pep Boys. Better than unprotected steel without the cost of the nickle alloy. I just couldn't put a raw steel line back on, because one of the ones that was leaking had already been changed once by a mechanic a some years ago. Also I painted them for extra protection before installing, because well... I'm crazy like that!

Well, I joined the rusty brake line club yeserday when the pedal went to the floor. Lucky no cross traffic at stop sign.

I dropped gas tank today and removed the long 10' plus line. I think is is a 52009911AB will have to see if dealer has one Monday.
