Default PCM Reprogram

So a buddy of mine said that the PCM's in these Dodges "learn" how you drive and that is the way they preform. So if you take the PCM fuse out, put your seatbelt on, shut the door and turn the key on and wait for the three chimes, it will reset it. He also claimed that people were getting like 2 tenths better time on the quarter mile after doing this. Is all this true? What are your opinions on this?

I agree that there is some truth in that. The PCM will learn the drivers habits and adjust its internal parameters on just about everything. So a weekend warrior that resets everything is kind of starting from scratch however everything would be based on the factory defaults.

Yeah, you can pull the PCM/AutoShutOff fuse, wait a minute, put it back in, then go drive the truck aggressively. It will "learn" the new driving style...for a while. As soon as you get into stop and go traffic a few times or just drive normally, it "learns" that too.

I have a similar system in my 300C SRT8. To keep it from re-learning a less performance oriented style, I added a programmer. Did the same thing to the RAM.

Neither of them "go grandma" on me now.

I got to admit though, ever since I've done that the truck seems to run a hell of a whole lot better!
