Default Airraid CAI

Anybody else think the way the Airraid box seals to the hood leaves a bit to be desired.

Has anybody built a cover for their air filter box.
Been looking at mine thinking i could seal it up a bit better.
Curious if anybody else has tried sealing the box,and has any tips

On my old 2012 4.7 I got some foam and put it on top of the intake to make it seal against the hood better. It wasn't 100% perfect but was a lot better that before. I got the foam in the plumbing department at Home Depot. The stuff they use to insulate pipes.

LOL,should of read this last night.

I never even thought of using a taller foam to seal it up.

I spent a couple hours bending up 1/8" steel rod to make a frame that uses 24 gauge sheet steel and plastic to be a cover :aka something like an S&B uses, aarrgghh

That works too! I had thought about making a cover for mine to seal it up but never actually got around to it. If you can make a good cover for it then why not? Really that's the better way to do it IMO.

LOL,i've got about 6 hours into this cover now,i'm thinking your foam idea would be the way to go.

Getting the cover to fit tightly is taking a bit of grinding / welding and fabbing, turning into more work then i orginally planned.
The bend towards the fender,is a compound type bend,so it complicates things somewhat, plus having to build a couple oddball tabs to seal up where the box bolts to the fender.
This is the first and last one i think i'll build, aarrgghh, lol

Now i'm thinking of using this as a mold, and duplicating it in fibreglass or something, lol

Yup I can definitely see where it would be difficult, especially once you get closer to the fender. Making a fibreglass one would be sweet though!

LOL,got suckered by the internet Sean.
If i was doing it again, not a chance in hell,i'd spend the money on a CAI.
I gotta admit,i fell for some of the internet advertising that goes on.
"Sucker" was wrote on my forehead when i was buying things, lol

Well after roughly 10 hours of fitting ,it's finally done, and seals to the air box pretty decently, first and last one i'm building though
