Open the hood and just underneath to the right of the hood catch is the microswitch for the remote start. It might need adjustment because if it isn't making good contact and compressing the switch then the remote start thinks the hood is open. I would also check to make sure the wiring to the back of the switch is secure too.

Default I had that issue

I would hit the button and the truck would not start, tried it while sitting in the drivers seat and the screen read "remote start aborted, hood ajar". The problem was the connector under the hood--the small black plastic knob/extension was missing so there was no contact to the plunger/switch. Simple fix, for me anyways, hope yours is as simple.

You also cannot remote start while the door is open. All doors/hood must be closed.

I took it to Dodge yesterday and it sounds like its going to be the same problem, they had to order the part so I have to wait until Tuesday.

also beware that you have enough gas in the tank. i had a problem with mine once. started it from inside the house and when i went outside it was off. tried it again but it wouldn't start. screen read some kind of malfunction. then i noticed i was under a 1/4 tank. guess its a nice safety feature that you don't use up a lot of your gas with the remote start, but im not sure how much gas is the cpu's cut off?

I believe that i saw a continuation of this thread some where, it turned out to be a plastic piece was broken or missing on the hood switch & it was not depressed enough to shut the HOOD AJAR off

there are 2 different kind of hood switches on these trucks. I think they changed them for 2010. Cause all the 09s I've seen use a plastic plunger thats located in the lip of the hood to push a switch located in a plastic bracket which is mounted to the rad support. all the 2010s I've seen have the switch on the side of the hood latch.
